A refined and expressive single-vineyard Brunello, Poggio alle Mura represents Castello Banfi’s most terroir-driven interpretation of Sangiovese. Drawn from the historic hillside vineyard surrounding Banfi’s medieval castle, the 2019 vintage highlights elegance, aromatic clarity, and balance—hallmarks of this highly regarded year in Montalcino.

The nose is vivid and layered, offering aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, and ripe plum, accented by rose petal, orange peel, and Mediterranean herbs. Subtle notes of vanilla, cedar, and sweet spice frame the fruit without overpowering it. On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied and beautifully poised, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a supple, polished texture. Flavors of red berries, dried flowers, and savory spice lead into a long, harmonious finish with hints of tobacco and mineral.

More approachable in its youth than the monumental 2016, the 2019 Poggio alle Mura still offers excellent structure and depth, making it equally compelling now with decanting or with extended cellaring.
