Tasting Notes

A classic expression of Pauillac from an underrated vintage, the 2006 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is now in a beautiful drinking window. It opens with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, and hints of violet and crushed stone. On the palate, it’s elegant, medium-bodied, and precise, showing a mix of ripe cassis, dried cherry, pencil shavings, and leather.

The tannins have softened beautifully with time but still offer enough grip to pair well with food. The finish is long, earthy, and savory, showcasing the pedigree of this Fifth Growth estate.

Vintage Overview (2006 Bordeaux):

Following the blockbuster 2005 vintage, 2006 was initially overshadowed but has since gained respect for its structure, balance, and age-worthiness. In Pauillac, estates like Grand-Puy-Lacoste made focused, classically styled wines with excellent aging potential.

Winemaker’s Note:

Crafted primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon (80%) with 20% Merlot, aged for 16–18 months in French oak (70% new), this vintage embodies the estate’s philosophy: precision, purity, and power with elegance.

Why We Love It

2006 GPL is a wine for classic Bordeaux lovers. It’s refined, structured, and complex, yet doesn’t require decades to show its best. It punches well above its classification and delivers the kind of age-worthy elegance usually found in much pricier wines.
