Tasting Notes
From one of the greatest vintages in recent Bordeaux history, La Petite Église 2009 is a sumptuous, full-bodied, and velvety expression of Pomerol. Made exclusively from old-vine Merlot, this wine channels the pedigree of its legendary parent estate, Château L’Église-Clinet.
Expect layers of plum compote, blackberry, mocha, and black truffle, laced with hints of licorice, warm spice, and crushed violets. The palate is lush and supple, with fine-grained tannins, luxurious texture, and a long, hedonistic finish. A gorgeous, earlier-drinking alternative to the grand vin — but by no means secondary in character.

Vintage Snapshot (2009 Bordeaux):
2009 was a near-perfect vintage for Bordeaux, especially for the Right Bank. Warm, sunny weather produced wines of great ripeness, supple tannins, and immediate appeal—with excellent aging potential to boot. Pomerol wines, in particular, are known for their decadence and depth in 2009.
Winemaker’s Insight:
Crafted under the direction of the late Denis Durantou, La Petite Église is a single-parcel, 100% Merlot wine sourced from sandy, gravel-rich soils adjacent to the main L’Église-Clinet vineyards. Only a few thousand bottles produced each year — and never a wine to overlook.
Why We Love It
This is not your typical “second wine.” La Petite Église 2009 has all the hallmarks of a grand vin: richness, detail, and aging potential. It’s a rare chance to taste the hand of a Pomerol master at a fraction of the price — and from a historic vintage.
